Obligation or Opportunity? Tom Morton, PGA VP of Player Development at Morton Golf talks the role of golf facilities in growing junior golf.

Your big fundraiser is the golf and guitars event, the annual one you've had.

Tell us a little bit about that.

How did that come to be and why is it such a big success?

I think it would have been my dad's 50th anniversary on properties many years ago now.

We said, look, we're going to do something for you.

You have no choice.

This is a big deal.

What would you like? He's like, well, you know, I obviously love golf and it'd be great to raise a little money for the foundation.

And, you know, I also love music.

We developed this event called Golf Guitars where we work with our large local country music radio station.

And ultimately it's a kind of a pro-am with country music artists.

So it's really turned into a really neat event and a nice fundraiser for the foundation.

I went to one of those songwriter events I don't know, kind of unplugged events for the first time I did a few years back.

Kind of went almost under duress.

Like I didn't really want to go.

And when I was there, I was so into it.

The stories behind some of the songs that we all know and love kind of came to be.

Some of the anecdotes about how certain lyrics came into it.

Those are just incredible.

So I encourage anyone in the Sacramento area when the golf and guitars event happens.
