Tony GleesonHostThere was a government report that came out recently.
It's called a National Security Assessment on Ecosystem Collapse.
It's by the intelligence services of this country.
And what it says is that we're in absolutely terrible trouble.
We're staring down the barrel of potential societal collapse.
And this is a very difficult historic transition that we have to now start to move through together.
And what it means is that the idea that our standard of living, our material standard of living, is going to go up and up and up forever is simply an illusion.
For many
people it's gone down, down, down forever.
Look.
What we need to do is come together in a common purpose in relation to a terrible and rising threat.
Everybody.
And of course, those with the broadest shoulders should take on the greatest burden.
So in terms of your worries about the working class...
What that implies is that the rich actually have to pay a fair share, fossil fuel companies, the super rich, etc.
That is the way we actually combine having a more equal future and therefore a future which is going to give people at least some of what they want with having a future that we can survive through.
It's not about having a socialist ideology or whatever anymore.
It's about survival.
