What can surviving a zombie apocalypse teach us about surviving everyday life? In this episode of *The Still Growing Up Film Club*, Cece Fanning takes an unconventional coming-of-age trip into…
Cece FanningHostIf you are not currently living through a zombie

Not on if you would want to live through this event, nor do I want you to ponder if you'd even be good at surviving in such conditions.

If I had to endure an apocalyptic event, what would be the things I would want to keep top of mind to ensure my own survival? Would I live in a self-imposed, systematic type of manner to ensure I don't slip up and let my guard down against the impending threat? Whether it be zombies or aliens or anything at all.

Or would I live every day, no, every second of every day like it was currently my last moment alive? And perhaps more importantly, what would be your reason to push against succumbing to the lingering threat that could at any moment come for us too if we don't play our cards right? What is that thing that makes the fight worthwhile? Is it a loved one, seeing a special place from the past, finding the love we've been searching for our whole lives, or maybe enjoying our favorite sweet treat? If you've never seen Zombieland, don't sweat it.

The story takes place in a zombie-ridden future, and the story of Columbus and the gang starts in a way that feels a bit too familiar.

Zombieland begins with Columbus catching us up to speed on how the country has become a zombie apocalypse horror show.

As he tells us of how the zombies came to take over what was once the United States of America, Columbus reveals so much about his personality.

He's looking for some type of love and acceptance in a world where he doesn't quite fit in.

Cue the virus, Columbus's name for the zombie germ that turns ordinary humans into flesh-eating zombies one bite at a time.

As Columbus thinks he has finally found love with his cute neighbor, it doesn't take long for him to discover that she's already been bitten by a zombie herself and is trying to make Columbus the latest victim.

Having saved himself from his first brush with death, thanks to his affinity for making and following rules, He begins to live his life even more methodically than he had been before.

As the world folds in around him, Columbus uses his list of rules to survive being bitten by zombies, and after he's been living in this zombie reality for some time, he finally decides he is going to see if anyone in his family is still alive, despite the virus having run rampant through the country.

Columbus continues to dodge flesh-eating zombies and befriends, if you ask him, Tallahassee.

Tallahassee is a rough-and-tough cowboy type who has one motivation in this apocalyptic world.

Along the way, they encounter another college-age kid named Wichita and her younger sister, Little Rock.

As the film continues, the four unlikely friends inevitably team up, and Wichita and Little Rock agree to stay with the guys as they make their way toward the, rumor has it, zombie-free amusement park, Pacific Playland.

After all, Wichita promised she'd take her little sister there to have some good old-fashioned childlike fun.
