Right off the bat, we are getting this out of the way now, I'm going to list my top five favorite quotes from Matilda, from least favorite to most.

One way or another, though, every human being is unique, for better or for worse." Four, "There's another crime in the making.

Your car is about to run a stop sign." Three, "Sometimes Matilda longed for a friend, like the kind, courageous people in her books.

It occurred to her that such talking dragons and princesses with hair long enough to climb, such people might only exist in storybooks.

But she was about to discover she had a strength, a strength she wasn't even aware of." Two, "Harry Wormwood had unintentionally given his daughter the first practical advice she could use.

He had meant to say, 'When a child is bad.' Instead, he said, 'When a person is bad,' and thereby introduced a revolutionary idea, that children could punish their parents only when they deserved it, of course." One, "No more Miss Nice Girl." Okay, there.

Now that we did that, we can focus on being six years old, having a family that's annoying and sometimes downright mean, and honing our special powers to use to punish people, but only people who actually deserve punishment.

For those of us who don't know the story of Matilda, I'll let you know everything you need to know.

Her parents and brother either ignore her or scream at her and blame her for their problems.

While forced to endure this mistreatment with no other family or friends, Matilda takes comfort in books.

She harnesses not only a great intelligence, but a special power that allows her to control objects and move them with her eyes.

After she begins school at Crunchem Hall, Matilda finds a friend in her teacher, Miss Honey, and a fearsome enemy in the school's principal, Miss Trunchbull.

Matilda vows to help Miss Honey get her house back from her cruel Aunt Trunchbull, so she harnesses her power and inevitably scares Miss Trunchbull with the threat of the consequences of her own actions.

Miss Trunchbull runs away from the town, and Miss Honey becomes the school's new principal.

Matilda's family is also looking to leave town, and leave the whole country, after they realize they are being chased by the police because of her dad's illegal car salesman tricks he's gotten up to.

Matilda gets adopted by Miss Honey, having her parents sign the paperwork before they flee the country with her brother.

For the '90s kids and everyone else, Matilda is a movie that shows us how important it is to be brave, to do what is right, and to use kindness and intelligence in equal measure.

Matilda and Miss Honey spend the whole film searching for another person who is their true family, and not someone who is only family in name.
