This is a story that I have not been able to tell anyone except my friends, and I'll explain why.

My parents had a small cottage that my grandparents had left to us, and it was an ideal escape every season to spend at least a few weeks down by the water.

mostly with our mom and my dad would travel back and forth to our hometown for work the cottage was nothing special relatively run down and had a bit of a old cabin vibe with bunk beds and bedrooms but i was devastated when my parents told me that they were going to sell it when i turned 17. college tuitions for my sisters and soon to be mine were hitting my parents hard so we all had to say goodbye to our favorite spot So here's the part where I did something kind of bad.

I had a girlfriend at the time, we'd been together for just under two years, and she had been to the cottage with my family before, just for the day.

After it was sold, when I was going to be going into my senior year, I ended up driving down to the coast on a dull weekend, only to realize that the family that my parents sold it to had never changed the locks before.

I know I shouldn't have done this, but people who buy beach cottages like this sometimes go once, maybe twice a summer, and then the cottage sits empty for the off season.

The family that bought the place had probably already had their vacation weeks in it.

And now that we were going into September, I figured that the place was going to be empty for months on end.

I had my old key and periodically on the weekends, I would sneak down to the beach with my girlfriend and we would spend maybe a night or two in the cottage hooking up.

Hence the reason I never told my parents about this, let alone contacted the police since I technically was breaking into the place.

This is a pause and an aside from the story because it's not right, but it's also not terrible.

I need to beat on before I can properly judge this, but we should discuss the ethics of that, sneaking into a home.

The only thing that was making this somewhat palatable of okay is that they're teenagers.

Fast forward a couple of months in, it was late October and the shoreline was mostly cold and dead anyways.

And just like the weekends before, I snuck down with my girlfriend and we spent the night there.
