are making falling into the faded, glittering lights of the city seem vastly preferable to living on.
But for what might be the first time, or maybe the thousandth time, BC snaps back to her senses and falls back to the roof, only to find that her worst fears have been confirmed.
The Machine King is here, and after a brief conversation, her living, self-returning, glowing communicator falls silent, and BC summons Velvet's forces in a rush.
Now, across the city, Rat's conversation with Melvin gives us a brief snippet of the role of the minor crime families in the Machine King's plans.
But looming even larger is the impending arrival of the Edirne who killed most of Rat's men and nearly beat him to death.
And just as Rat begins to realize that Val might not have been lying in prison about being the Iron Wolf, the howl echoes out and Rat's front door and armed men and weapons do very little to stop Val's hunt.
In barely a moment, Rat's entire crew is dead or dying, and Val steadily begins torturing him for more information.

He leaves Rat bleeding in the remains of that burning hideout and retreats from the city, sensing that Machine King has kicked the hornet's nest and it's time to lay low.
