In Episode 23 of *The Sailing Podcast*, host Theo Stocker sits down inside the tiny, 19-foot cabin of Mini Globe 580,*Trekker* with one of the friendliest and most intrepid sailors on the planet…
Ertan BeskardesGuestTheo StockerHostErtan, I really want to talk about your two major adventures, the Golden Globe and the Mini Globe.
But first of all, could you tell me a little bit about what it is that ignited your love for sailing?

Knowing that it was an adventure always because when you go out to sea, the end is not always guaranteed, especially when you go on your own.

And that's always been an attraction to me, to be on the water on my own, and that has always been since I was a child.
Um, and what was the first boat that you sailed? Do you remember what it was that you sailed?

Um, when I was, uh, very young, maybe 12, 13 years old, my father bought probably one of the first fiberglass dinghy type of things that arrived in Turkey, which my father bought for me, which I put a stick to it to make it into a sail.

And I used to spend my days and nights all the time in that vessel, all day.

And, uh, obviously my mother used to be very upset with me all the time because I used to disappear at night, and, um, and obviously I have no communications and so on, and I would turn up in the morning, and she would be always angry with me that I'd been out at sea all night.
But, but did you, did you anchor, or did you pull it up on a beach and then sleep in the boat?
