We would like to start the show by congratulating the Los Angeles Dodgers on a official three-peat.
They just got Tarik Skubal at the trade deadline, and they traded him for literally a hamburger and a hot dog.
Nothing.
The best team in baseball just got the best pitcher in baseball that won the last two Cy Youngs.
Is this good or bad for baseball? In the grand scheme of things, this is great for baseball.
But what is about to happen is bad for baseball.
So what the Dodgers, I think, are doing is they are abusing the salary cap and deferred money.
They are around $1.1 billion in deferred money for just 10 players.
So what I think they're doing is the owner knows there is gonna be a salary cap at some point, so they are essentially abusing the system until it gets in place.
What I'm actually most curious about, and I'll toss it back to you, is what is gonna happen with all this deferred money if a salary cap happens? Are they gonna have to trade players, redo contracts? All of that is gonna be super confusing.
But just like in college football, you're essentially paying to get players to win championships, the Dodgers are doing that at the highest level.
So it is good for baseball because the Dodgers have a massive fan base.
They have multiple countries behind them, and they have a whole continent in Asia, so that is great for baseball.
But is one team just buying all the best players and, like, no one can beat them great for baseball in, like, the micro? Not at all.
He's doing what every fan base wish their owner did, and that's why there's a lot of hate going on right now for the Dodgers because he's just doing what everyone else wishes, wishes their owner did.
And to go back to your point about the salary cap, they...
You're right, they might know there is a salary cap coming, but they also know that they're definitely gonna be grandfathered in.
Everything that happens before the salary cap is gonna be grandfathered in.
If you have a billion dollars in deferred payments, they're not just gonna, like, break that up or be like, "Oh, you have to trade half your team." 0% chance.
There's no way that'll- they'll allow that.
So I think this is a way for them to be like, "We're grandfathered in with a fucking mega team.
Even if there is a salary cap and a salary floor, we're good." Even if they do agree on it, it's not gonna be 2028 or 2029, it's gonna be like, oh, 2032 the salary cap goes into play.
What will happen with it is they're gonna pay a luxury tax, which you see in basketball.
So they're definitely gonna trade players because you're not gonna wanna pay all that luxury tax, which-
