Some things are better loved from a distance. Benjamin St. Fred has spent a very long time looking toward Earth… Small, blue, beautiful, and impossibly far away. Then one day, he decides to come…
Once upon the future, or a Tuesday after that, there lived a beast beyond the rings where Saturn keeps his hat.
He sat upon an asteroid, quite larger than a bed, with moon dust on his shoulders and a comet near his head.
He watched us from the outer dark, from far past Mars and meat, and loved our little spinning blue, our cities, clouds, and sleet.
He loved how humans built small chairs and called them folding chairs, perhaps.
But most of all, he loved the nights when Earth would tilt and twinkle and every window, star, and street would shimmer, wink, and sprinkle.
Oh, said Benjamin St. Fred with both hands on his cheek, I'd like to go and say hello.
