The Prospect Promotion Incentive
May 29, 2026 · 1 hr 14 min · 10 segments
In this episode, Beck and Scully get caught up on over 25 promotions from the last two weeks. Players discussed: Josiah Hartshorn, 1B/OF, CHC Blake Mitchell, C, KCR Colt Emerson, SS/3B, SEA Gage…
No entities detected.
Today, we're gonna run down some national holiday prospect comps and then really play some catch up on the last two or so weeks of promotions.
Of course, beginning with promotions to the Major League level and running you all the way through, uh, the bottom of the barrel of Minor League rungs.
Today, Thursday, May 28th, our national holidays, uh, were National Brisket Day, National Beef Burger Day, National Hamburger Day.
I don't...
Do you know what the delineation is between a beef burger and a hamburger?
No. Um, a- and I th- found it funny on the, the website today.
They could've just said, you know, cows, beef in general, um, with all of these.
It's just, you know...
I thought it was funny that those are the only three national holidays and, you know, they're, uh, not that different between the three of them.
Yeah, fair.
What, what direction did you go? Which prospect are you comping to cow?
Yeah.
Um, so my mind immediately went to a Morning Brew article that I'd read this week, um, not that it was exclusive to them.
Uh, but they were just talking about how a bunch of brisket, um, and barbecue restaurants in Texas are having really, uh, are having a hard time with their margins recently with the skyrocketing prices of beef and specifically brisket in their case.
So translating that to baseball and prospecting as we do, um, I was looking for guys whose stock has risen in a s- in a way that is similar to the price of brisket thus far.
So I pulled up Kleg's May update.
A couple of hot names in there like, uh, Franklin Arias, uh, Devin, uh, Fitzgerald, uh, Ronnie Cruz were considered.
But the largest one that I saw vaulted into the top 100, rose 332 spots to number 88.
That is none other than Josiah Hartshorn, uh, first base outfield prospect for the Cubs, so near and dear to my heart.
Uh, the Cubs certainly needed a riser like this, uh, to kind of make our farm system look a little bit better, uh, going into this year.
But Hartshorn was a 2025 sixth round pick out of high school, and, uh, through 49 games this year, uh, 39 of which came at Low A. He's slashing 290, 430, 497, good for a 156 WRC+, and he's walking more than he's striking out at a 19% versus a 15% clip.
So Hartshorn looks like he's a real, uh, bat in our system.
Uh, obviously, you know, coming out of high school it was really good to see him not only just hold his own, but dominate, uh, Low A.
So we'll see what the High A competition has in store for him.
But sitting as a top 90 prospect right now according to Chris Kleg, uh, that's really exciting for myself and hopefully the Cubs, for other Cubs fans as well.
