As soon as I decided that I was going for a home birth and I realized I couldn't listen to every single podcast that you've put out, then I started searching for the home births and especially the first time mom home births.
I did breathing practice and listened to the affirmations.
I am really proud of the way I was able to trust my body and also the way I was able to stay calm and in control through labor and especially through the birth.
I would do all of that again.
I would probably see a pelvic floor physio in pregnancy as well and see if there's anything I can do to relax that because I would have had an easier time if I was able to do that.
Yes, relaxing the pelvic floor.
We do have a little bit of a chat about that in this episode and I wanted to highlight it here because there may be some others of you here listening because you're strong, fit, healthy and maybe you too have been a dancer all your life or engaged in activities that have impacted on you having a strong pelvic floor.
Sophia shares with us how her pelvic floor may have impacted on her birth.
It was nothing major and it definitely did not stop her from having a very straightforward home birth.
But it's probably the one thing that she might approach differently next time.
So big, big hello to you and welcome here.
We have a wonderful first baby home birth story as Sophia recounts her journey to meet Atlas.
Sophia is a dance teacher.
She's super fit and healthy and remained very active all throughout her pregnancy.
And I'm so glad that not only was she fit physically, but she also did the mental work.
She learned specific breath work and relaxation skills and understood and felt comfortable with how the body works through labor.
So she was super confident to have a home birth and there was absolutely no reason not to.
Within her story, we also hear about a cervical lip having to push as the overwhelming urge just didn't quite kick in and her midwife supporting the pelvic floor to help baby Atlas come out into the world.
So here we are, episode 185, Sophia's home birth to Atlas.
Let's jump into it now.
So how many do you reckon you've listened to, Sophia?
No idea.
I didn't make it through all of them.
I had to start picking and choosing.
Once I decided home birth, I started picking and choosing the home birth ones mostly.
