#496: LIVE on Course - Playing with Your C Game

All right, and we're off.

First tee nerves, gotta love 'em.

Playing with three guys in town for a wedding, me as a single.

Hit a nine wood off the first tee, downhill par five, but the fairway only goes out about 230 straight downhill.

Hit it a little skinny and a little right when I'm playing for a high soft draw, so it went way through the fairway, but luckily had a good look.

Hit the nine wood again and hit it really good, so I should have a little wedge, wedge in.

All right, so you guys know I love thinking about my theme for the day or what I'm feeling coming in.

And, you know, I think today is all about want versus need.

I went a month between my match play at, uh, at my Ricky Cup, my Ryder Cup event.

So I went from playing really well, at least in the first 12 holes when I won my match, to a month in between 'cause we got sick and travel and all that stuff.

And then I got a round with my father-in-law at his club, and I'm thinking, "Oh, man, I'm so excited 'cause I'm hitting my woods good," and that course is such a target golf, and if you're hitting your woods good, you're in money position.

And so I went into the round with my father-in-law really wanting good golf, like really badly.

And, you know, you add in a month not playing, I really leaned into trying to find the feels that I had at my Ryder Cup event, which meant I was swing-focused the whole time with a ton of want.

Whereas today it's like I know my keys.

I know I mess up when I get quick at the top and I don't hit the outside of the ball.

Like, if I'm just focused on hitting the outside of the ball, for me, it usually works really well, as long as I have patience and load.

And so today it's like as long as I can do that, we'll be okay.

So hole one, wasn't patient off the first tee, hit it right, and then, um, hit another good nine wood up there.

Hit it at the back of the green, nice two-putt par to start.

Tee box two, first shot with the mini driver, hooked it a little bit, but I actually prefer that than a block 'cause I can work with that, and, uh, we'll see if it's in play.
