A hopeful creator recounts the relentless effort to secure Dolly Parton for a project — from canceled meetings to a surprise 2.5-hour conversation with her manager. The episode highlights dreaming…
And honestly, Ali, the only person that really felt right was Dolly.
That's what we're going to be.
Then, of course, I woke up and I realized, well, I better, you know, dream big dreams than put on your overalls, right? That's a famous quote, not my quote, but one that I use.
And I said, okay, how do I make this happen? And so I made a few phone calls and got in touch with somebody I knew who knew Danny Nozell, who's Dolly's manager.
And we set up in a meeting and the meeting was canceled three times.
And finally, when I met with him, I walked into his office, and Danny's just a fantastic guy, but he's sitting behind his big desk, and I walk in, it's five o'clock, and he says, sits back like this, and he says, you know, sorry it took so long to get together with you.
He said, you've got 10 minutes.
I have to go home and take care of my dog.
I said, okay, I totally get it.
His dog was sick, and I respect that completely, especially you respect that, right, canine? which came up unexpected.
And I said, I understand.
And I was there two and a half hours.
Poor dog.
But it turns out that Danny and I hit it off extremely well.
He thought this concept was fantastic.
He said that, Greg, I'm highly confident I can get you a deal, but I cannot promise one with Dolly.
Dolly's number one brand in the world.
She turns down enormous amounts of opportunities every year.
And I think this would be fantastic for her, but only she can decide.
