So today we're going to delve right into the legal process from a solicitor's perspective, taking into account what we know already about Medico Legal OT.
So Andrew, I'll start by asking you the difference between plaintiff and defendant law.
I guess given our audience are a lot of younger or student OTs, they may not have that understanding.
So Medico Legal, I guess, has traditionally been an area of interest, but it's kind of elusive in that not a lot of people understand the depth behind it.
Let's start with what is a plaintiff, right? So a plaintiff is a person or a body corporate or a company who initiate a legal action, right? So that's the person moving something forward in terms of looking for a claim, whether it be personal injuries, an injustice they've had, or an organisation unhappy with a contract.
So fundamentally, it's the person who feels aggrieved and they start the legal process.
If you are sitting at a set of traffic lights in a car, someone hits you from behind, you're bringing a claim against the driver of the other vehicle at fault.
And so similarly in, you know, a work cover case, you know, it's against the employer, work cover will step in.
In a public liability claim, it might be, you know, an injury in a shopping centre.
