Attack What You're Avoiding

One of the first optimistic outlooks I ever wrote had one of my favorite quotes in it.

Then, like most things, it got filed away and forgotten.

A year later, I stayed with a friend and his wife, and it changed that.

I was meeting her for the first time, and when I walked in their house, she said, I'd love for you to come into my art studio.

I want to show you something.

Walking in, there was a quote from Chris Williamson that I so fondly remembered on her wall.

It said, the magic that you're looking for is in the work that you're avoiding.

She said, what made me put that above my artwork is that I don't always feel like painting, but the magic I'm looking for is in the work that I'm avoiding.

See, that story has never faded because a message can hit you at exactly the right or the wrong time to matter.

And then it can find you again exactly when you need it.

Today is the day to hit play, to stop circling the goal or keep putting it off.

Don't worry about how well you do it or how it turns out.

Just attack it with one intentional action.

Because a better marriage, it's on the other side of that hard conversation.

A finished book is on the other side of writing it one page at a time.

Your best health is on the other side of that workout that you keep talking yourself out of.

See, the magic isn't hiding.

It's just sitting behind the thing that you keep avoiding.

So today is your day to go attack it.

And remember, the magic that you're looking for.

is in the work that you're avoiding.
