In this episode of the OET Podcast, practise your **OET Listening Part A skills** with a realistic GP consultation involving a young woman presenting with worsening period pain and symptoms suggestive…
Morning.
Come in and take a seat.
I'm Dr. Bennett.
I don't think we've met before.
Are you new to the clinic?
Hi, yeah, I'm Ava.
I just switched clinics because it's closer to home now, and I wanted somewhere I could actually get an appointment quickly.
I'm 26, if that helps for the file.
Perfect, thanks.
And just so I've got it on file, what is it you do for work?
I'm a hairdresser, so I'm on my feet pretty much the whole shift, five days a week.
Good to know.
So what's brought you in today?
My periods, basically.
The pain's gotten so much worse over the last six months, and I finally decided I needed to get it looked at properly instead of just gritting my teeth through it every month.
Okay, let's talk through that.
Can you describe the pain for me, where you feel it, and what it's like?
It's this really sharp, cramping pain low down in my abdomen, and it spreads into my lower back as well.
It's not just a dull ache.
It properly grips and then releases over and over.
Some months it's manageable, but on the worst days, it genuinely stops me in my tracks.
And is there anything that seems to bring it on or make it worse?
It's always worse on the first day of my period.
If I've been standing for a long stretch that day, at work it gets a lot worse too.
That's useful to know.
