In this episode of the Fit and Unfiltered podcast, I share why 1st September feels like a mini new year as the kids go back to school and routine returns, and I unpack a holiday moment I overheard…

I work with a lot of women who have struggled for as long as they can remember with all or nothing, yo-yoing, midweek versus the weekend.

It's like a new world because I think once you get into that mentality of diet culture and you see the results... naturally a lot of women just return back to the diet every time they want to lose weight again so first of all the story we're away and we're just sitting on a park bench just like the outdoor activity thing and the bench next to us was like a big family and the grandparents were there and there's like loads of kiddos and the granddad just gets like these little bottles of water for all the kids and the nan said you need to drink water they're on holiday And so she got out Coke, right? I wasn't like earwigging it.

And so the kids obviously don't open the bottles of water the granddad gives them.

It was really interesting to me that it was the female member of the family as well who said this, you don't need to drink water on holiday.

And instantly, as soon as she said, because they're on holiday, I've had this conversation so many times with clients where weekends, holidays, half terms, there's like a very clear, I don't know how to manage these occasions.

And I overheard this conversation and I thought, that's how far back this stems.

If you're one of those women who you know that you've done all of the diets under the sun, And the concept of it being a lifestyle just feels like it's not doable for you because you've got to be on a diet.

I work with a few clients at the moment and for them, it's like mind blown, mind blown that we're not doing anything crazy restrictive.

And it just made me realize that like those kids are obviously being taught that of a weekend, you don't really need to prioritize your health.

But it made me think it's probably the same mentality of a weekend, right? For these people, this family.

And again, this grandparent, this nan, I'm not judging her because maybe this is what she was taught.

And so those kids then grow up, the girls in the group grow up, believing that like on holiday or whatever occasion it is, we don't prioritize our health.

Because bear in mind, the water was the healthier option, okay? And the clear message was they don't have to do the healthy thing, they're on holiday.

And the story that I've heard from some of my clients is the female member of the family then When the kids get to their early teens and start to gain a little bit of weight and change hormonally, then get put on a diet.
