Join Dave & Duncan as they check out the new album from South London riff slingers, Burner. The bands new album, No One Is Coming To Save Us, is out September 25th via Church Road Records. FFO: Trap…
you've already recapped.
We've been to the burner before, Dave.
We have been burned.
I think that's what you can, I think you can call yourself as having been burned if you've listened to a burner album.
Sure.
Let's start that happening.
Where's all my burning fans? There's just people all scarred and shit.
Yeah.
like fucking flames no we've been through it we survived we got to the other end and as debuts go as I recall I'm sure you went back and like hammered the due diligence that you do but as I recall the impressive thing about the band was just how confident they were like just out of the gate they just had a really good sense of what the sound was I also think that maybe, once again, a little bit of homework here.
I've been travelling this week, so just back off.
I think I may have knocked them down a little bit because I felt there was more to come.
And I also recall there was elements of melody I really liked on the album, and I think I wanted more of that.
I also think I may have said to... more might not necessarily be better, but I wanted more of it.
Whatever they were doing, I kind of liked the flashes of melody that were there.
I'd be curious to see if that would expand on their albums.
They clearly didn't hear my review.
No more of this melody for Duncan.
You won't get exactly what we give him, and he won't shut the fuck up, because he is not a burner.
So, like, I'm kind of, I'm mixed on this, right? Right.
I think if anything their sims just sharpened up even more which is kind of cool I think this one feels if possible more confident than the previous one I actually think they've got the balance of the death metal and the hardcore like fucking perfect here like just like just in general I think that side of things has never sounded better it will give you all that kind of attack snare like build up shit that you expect from a hardcore there's plenty elements where you like in your head you are the fucking gang vocal jumping in um and the vocal performance is absolutely scorched earth like all the way through this one i loved his tone before sim's even more forceful here she's really fucking well done um it it wastes no time as well this is an album that just continues to hammer you with a pace but has really cool switch ups between those kind of really slow deathy kind of death chord and moments where it's hitting you with rapid attack snare and double bass pedal.
Drummer does a real workout on this one if you know what I mean.
But it's also got really cool riffs as well like the know if i said it on my review last time but i found sometimes riffing could be a little bit predictable not in a bad way but i kind of felt like i knew what organically the next riff would be and it kind of went in or around that riff
in
my head and i'm like like musically that makes sense because my brain's aligned that way so you know and this one is a little bit more angular very a little bit more color in the guitar work which is really interesting
yeah
