While the internet is getting an important upgrade, ICANN will update a critical security key this coming October the 11th as part of its ongoing work to secure the internet.

Every time we go online, a vast network of behind-the-scenes safeguards works to keep the internet secure.

So on October the 11th this year, a month away from now, one of those safeguards will get an important upgrade.

It's the rollover, a planned security update designed to help keep the internet's domain name system, the DNS, secure, stable, and reliable.

The DNS is the system that helps connect people to websites and online services when they enter a web address.

So with all of that, Kim Davies is the vice president of Internet Assigned Numbers Authority, IANA, services at ICANN, and he's president of Public Technical Identifiers, PTI.
