Hello and welcome to another episode of The Last Video Store, the show where I, Alexi Taliopoulos, talk to cool, funny, interesting, exciting people about their favorite films.
And we do so in the style of an old-school video store rental combo, which includes a bonus staff pick, bespoke recommendation from my big old movie mind based on our guest taste.
And our guest this week is Simon McQuade, who is the director of Mortal Kombat and the brand-new Mortal Kombat 2.
Of course, these are films based on the ongoing video game franchise, the fighting style genre series that is all about brutal fatalities.
And here, I'm really excited to talk to Simon because I love talking about adaptation, and obviously I love talking about adaptation.
I love learning about sequels, and this is a massive sequel to a blockbuster film series.
And also, you know it, you know it, I love, love, love hearing about action cinema, especially when it is in that pure form of visual storytelling.
And what is more visual than heads getting ripped out of bodies with the spine still attached? Let us get into our chat with Mortal Kombat 2 director, Simon McQuade.
