So I want to pivot a bit and talk about, because you teach as well.

I do.

So let's dive into that.

What got you into teaching? And what is the biggest thing that you love about it? Spare no detail.

Well,

I fell in love with theater freshman year of high school.

I tell this story.

Miss Johnson was this tall and blonde and.

20 something year old teacher and, and all the boys in the classroom, hard eyes, you know, she walked in the first day and she was like, you're, you're kind of funny.

You should try improv.

I had no idea what it was.

But when she says jump, you go how high? You know what I mean? It's Miss Johnson.

First contact, first play, first project, whatever, first class, absolutely fell in love with it.

And I consider myself one of those fortunate folks in the universe who have experienced and tasted what happiness was.

Just sheer happiness.

I enjoyed myself so thoroughly.

I did theater all four years, graduated, and went to college as a theater major.

And I was all ready to graduate with a degree, go out to a theater, LA, New York, and become an actor.

Three and a half years into my undergrad, my immigrant...

A side of me kicked in with a gay force that desired and longed for stability, house in the suburbs, kids and dogs and cars in the driveway.

Mm hmm.

But I'm a selfish person, Mikel.

How do I hold on to the idea of acting, the realm of acting, and combine it with the stability? And the answer that came out between myself and my girlfriend, who is my wife today, is that I should maybe consider teaching.
