The JoLynn Braley Show | End the Binge with JoLynn

If you're like most of the women I talk to, you think the reason you're not at your goal weight is that you don't have enough willpower. Or you're not disciplined enough. Or you just need to find the…

I want you to think about the last time this happened to you because I'll bet you anything that it has.

You're feeling good, momentum, healthy momentum is building, and then something happens.

Work blows up, a conversation with your husband goes sideways, your kid's school calls, money stuff creeps in, or honestly, you're feeling fat, you're feeling impatient, you're starting to doubt yourself because you think that your progress should be moving faster, or it can even be that nothing has really even happened at all.

It's sitting on your chest, weighing you down before your feet even hit the floor.

And in that moment, any one of these moments, something in you reaches for food, not because you're hungry, because you're anxious and maybe highly anxious, either for a reason or not for any really conscious reason.

And food has always been the fastest way for you to turn the volume down, to try to stuff it, to try to numb it, to try to get away from it, to try to gain control of the anxiety.

The second bite doesn't stay, quote-unquote, a little, because the moment that you eat off plan, a thought fires off in your brain almost instantly, "Well, I already blew it." And that one sentence, I already blew it, that is the most expensive, costly, heavy sentence in the entire weight loss journey, because once you believe it, the floodgates open.

And if you've already blown it, then what's the point of stopping? Hey, it could be Monday night, and you told yourself you were going to start over again on Monday, but now the floodgates have opened, and you might as well just finish the bag that you started, order that food that you have been telling yourself that you shouldn't be eating because you know you can't eat just a little of it.

That's the part that makes this a cycle instead of just a bad day or a bad week, because then you tell yourself, "I'll start fresh on Monday." Does this sound familiar? It could be Sunday night, one more slice, half of the cheesecake, two bags of chips, one more glass of wine, because Monday is the reset button.

Except Monday comes, and it works for a few days until the next anxious moment hits.
