I did this workshop last week and I really love the content and I wanted to share it with you.
Because we talk a lot about scarcity and the scarcity mindset, but it does show up.
So we're going to talk about how donors can feel the pressure of our scarcity mindset and what it might be doing that's sort of sabotaging our donor relationships.
So what does scarcity and fundraising look like? It looks like chasing, over-following up, pitching too soon, although we don't pitch, but pitching or pushing, making the ask before they're ready, trying to convince them, over-explaining or trying constantly feeling like you need to provide or prove your worth.
Pushing towards an ask before a relationship is ready, maybe because you have a deadline, even though your deadline is not their problem.
Pressure inside the fundraiser often becomes pressure experienced by the donor.
And what do we know for sure is the more we push, the more we pitch, the more people get defensive.
And because when people feel pushed, they go into defense mode, they're not open to what we have to say.
Fundraising pressure can activate us internally, and we are going to then put that pressure on the donors.
