Jake, m- honest to God, I had 100 different ideas on what we could talk about and whatnot, but one of the things, or the main point of this podcast is, like, you got you Southern boys, all right? And y'all talk about how easy these Midwest deer are to come kill, and there's very few of y'all that come up here and just knock them out, and the rest of y'all go home with your tail between your legs.
So I wanted to get your opinion on why guys come to the Midwest, maybe besides, uh, the quality of deer that you're gonna get into up here, you know, every now and then.
I, I think one of the factors of coming up there for the average one for most guys is to try to find bigger deer.
That, that's the number one reason I hear guys talk about from down South going to, say, the Midwest, is 'cause they wanna go h- hunt a place with bigger deer, um, bigger quality deer.
Some people say they wanna go where, because there's more deer up there, and I don't necessarily think there's more deer up there.
Uh, so it seems like there's a absolute ton of deer, and some places they are chock-full.
Um, like Alabama, I killed two does a day from October, uh, 15th to February 10th.
Three bucks and a bonus buck tag, okay? Um- So the, the, the, the qu- the, the journey for a giant buck is what drives most people.
The other aspect I would say is s- for some of these guys, they wanna experience a v- and myself included, a very strong and pronounced rut.
The one issue a lot, a lot of guys complain about in the southeast, and this is pretty much across the board wherever you're at in the southeast, especially the deep south, like I'm talking Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, even Florida, especially Florida too, um, is the, what a lot of people call a trickle rut, or just they don't see any rutting activity.
They see some sign pop up, but you don't see the chase and you don't see, you don't see or hear a lot of vocalizations.
It just happens, and next thing you know, 200 days later you got fawns on the ground.
