Episode 20 - Cult Heroes XI finished, the Best Pat’s Goals ever, 1949/50 season review

something else that's happened since we were last on is like history has always been made all the time but a particularly important historical moment happened for St. Patrick's Athletic which is that Cain Levy got a full international cap for Ireland and I felt very firstly very proud for Cain who's been absolutely brilliant this season we don't talk about modern St. Pat's here but he has had he's by far and away the best player this year But it was lovely because it was the first time in well over 50 years that we had a full international.

So I did a piece and I put it on the Patreon, but I made it free to access.

So if people haven't read this yet, I think you will be interested in it.

It's just a piece about the seven men who've won those full senior caps with Ireland while at St. Pat's.

We've obviously had a lot of players who've gone on to play for Ireland.

We had a lot of women's caps, particularly in the late 90s.

We've had a lot of underage caps.

But those seven men, I wanted to kind of just profile them.

So the seven of them are Shea Gibbons, who got four caps in the 50s, our greatest ever centre forward.

Tommy Dunn, Pat's captain, who won two cups for us.

He got three caps in 1956.

Danny Leary won one cap in 1962.

Ronnie Whelan Senior won two caps in 63 and 64.

And then like two or certainly a lesser known one would be Jackie Hennessy who played for Pats in the mid to late 60s and he got one cap while at Pats in the year 1968.

Noel Campbell then was our most recent one before Keane came around.

Noel Campbell got one cap while at Pats and then quickly after moved to Fortuna Cologne and got a number of caps, the first real Irish player to make a mark.

In German football and then Keane Levy in 2026 and hopefully more to come from Keane.

So a lovely historic moment and obviously then as well Joey and I have been in the World Cup squad for Ghana as well.

Some moments of note for a season and a summer that maybe hasn't gone so well on the pitch for us.

but some history made there certainly so if people are interested in that just go to patreon.com forward slash history St Pat's it's freely available I'll put the link in our show notes here as well so you can click in you can just read it you don't need to be a member you don't need to sign up or anything it's just where I suppose it's a good place to host those long read articles absolutely and

then Cian absolutely there on Merit as well which is great and absolutely phenomenal this season for club and country now we can say and you were also at an event in Daily Mountain May as part of Fizz Fest

what's Fizz Fest? Fizz Fest This is the Fibsborough Festival.

And this was a great event.

And the reason I'm bringing it up is we're going to do it again.

So it was the same weekend we had the reunion for the 95-96 team.
