We talk with Power Nutrition coaches Kelly and Kayla about what a year of nutrition coaching inside a gym has taught them and why the upcoming fall challenge is built around simple targets that…
David SyvertsenHostKaylaGuestKellyGuestMm-hmm.

I wanna tone, right? Get that word a lot, right? I want to look better, which again, guys, let's be real.

That's 90% of the people's reasons when they, when they hire a nutrition coach.

Should I do this? If I don't wanna lose weight, I just wanna tone up, is this for me?
Good question.
Um, and I did get this.
I think going into it, you have to be aware that this is a weight loss challenge.
That doesn't mean you can't do it, but I think we're gearing our general content around losing weight.
So that might mean how do I subtract calories from...
Like, how do I calculate my calories, and then how, how much should I go into a deficit? That person that might not necessarily need to lose weight, um, might not need or might not benefit from subtracting calories.
They might need to go the opposite way and add calories in that point.
Like, if you wanna tone, you have to eat in a surplus most likely.
Like, you have to eat for gaining muscle mass.
Gaining muscle means eating in a surplus, eating more than most likely what you're currently doing.
So is this challenge for them? I think it's possible because of the accountability piece.
I think they get so much value out of having people, a community, and a group walk them through, like, the next six weeks.
It can be an awesome turning point to, like, they needed that, like, kick in the butt after summer, but they have to be holding themselves accountable.
Like, if you're trying to gain muscle here, like, you need to be really working either with someone or be disciplined enough on your own that that's the goal.
I'm gonna gear it towards, like, a calorie surplus.
So when we're saying, "Hey, cal- calculate this and then decrease your calories by maybe 300 to 500," maybe they're increasing and going the opposite way.
