Expectations vs. Reality

I'm Todd Glister with Andy Cam, and we're talking about setbacks and when things don't turn out the way you expect them on the job.

Right, so I think I've got some [laughs] I've got a few for you.

So what is a recent setback or curveball you've had to deal with, and how did you handle it?

Well, this is, this is down to organizing other trades I think is the-

Well, it sort-

...

the most recent one for me, 'cause every time, even though you give them all, [laughs] all the notice in the world-

Oh, yeah

... and I don't stick the pressure on.

I don't say, the, I'll go, I just say to them, "Look, around the middle of August, I might need you for some plastering.

[laughs] Are you around?" And I normally get, "Yeah.

Yeah, I can make that work." "Well, pe- just pencil me in there, and you know, if this is good and all right.

Have you got some days?" I say, "I'm hoping for this date, but I just need you there," blah, blah, blah.

So anyway, you carry on.

You get the electricians in.

You do your bit of plumbing, all the rest of it.

You ring him up about two weeks' time-

You've still got him i- he's still, he's in the back of your mind, he's organizing.

Yeah, you got him about two weeks ago, like two weeks before he needs to come in, "Hello, mate.

I've got the electrician.

Will you be there?" "Oh, no.

Oh, no, I can't."

What, do you mean this August?

Yeah, yeah.

[laughs]
