Tip number one, I want you to take a couple hours before summer officially begins, or if summer has already begun for you, don't panic, you can do this today if you want to, and do a summer speed kitchen reset.
There are other seasons for big overhauls, and hey, if you have the time, maybe this is your season for a big overhaul.
If this last month or so has been super busy like it has been for us, your fridge might be full with a whole bunch of things that have expired or leftovers that you didn't end up eating or condiments that are no good anymore.
So I want you to go through, I want you to pull everything out, throw away anything that's no longer good, and just give your fridge a good wipe down.
You don't have to do a whole pantry overhaul if you don't want to here, but just go in, look at your snacks, any empty boxes your kids have left.
If your kids are anything like mine, it drives me crazy, but they definitely leave extra boxes or empty boxes of things in the pantry.
Anything that's expired, pull it out, toss it, or if it's something you know your family's not going to eat but is still good, please donate it to your local food pantry.
What do you have in your freezer? What have you stored in your freezer over the last few months that you could potentially use for summer meals? For us, we get a ButcherBox meat delivery every month, and the last couple of months have been crazy.
So I actually paused one of our boxes to skip a month so that we could use what we have in the freezer.
I went through, I wrote down everything re- we had, every pound of chicken breast and every pork tenderloin in the freezer, so I can utilize that list when I go to create my meal plans in the summertimeAnd number three, I want you to create snack/food zones in your fridge, freezer, and pantry.
Now that they're all cleaned out, I want you to create some room in your fridge, in your pantry, and potentially in the freezer as well for your kids to be able to grab food easily.
As long as your kids are older than toddlers, they should be able to go into the cupboard and grab the cereal, or they should be able to go into the fridge and grab the yogurt.
So creating a breakfast zone in the pantry or in the fridge, creating snack zones in the pantry and the fridge for the kids to be able to go in and take their own snacks.
You can also do this in the freezer if you have freezer-friendly meals or snacks that your older kids might be able to enjoy.
