You know, the subtitle to this section, it's called Church Hurt, but then it's, the subtitle is Dealing With Disappointment And Unmet Expectations.
And I actually set it up in the introduction.
I'm saying, hey, to get to the, to get to the realm of living satisfied by God, you have to navigate, I call it the flatlands of frustration that are found in disappointment and unmet expectations.
It, it's a hope deferred.
So there's actually another section in this chapter called Rebuilding Your Hope.
You know, and I look at the road to Emmaus where Jesus is walking with, what, what is the guy's name? Cleopas and, you know, the other guy, we don't get his name.
Um, but they're talking to Jesus and, you know, they're like, "Do you, are you the only one who doesn't know what's happened in Israel in all of these two days?" And Jesus is like, "What happened?" And they're like, "Well, this Jesus of Nazareth, they crucified him and they killed him." And then you see the indictment on their own heart.
They say, "We had hoped-
... that he would liberate Israel." So you actually see, oh, your pain is from hope deferred.
And then you, you know, you see in the scriptures, hope deferred makes the heart sick.
And so I remember...
This was the other day, this was in the last two weeks.
Sarah Beth an- Sarah Beth could tell I was irritated, and she was like, "Are you okay?" And I said, "No, my heart is sick."
She was like, "What do you mean?" And I started telling her about a moment where I had hope deferred.
I was like, I, I was really hope, I was hope- We were walking through something, and we had like...
it just was a trial in our life, and it was like, oh man, or I had gotten some advice, and the advice had been given to me, and I was like, man, I have a lot of hope in practicing what this person had said.
And well, it didn't play out like I thought, and I was very hopeful at the beginning, and now I'm realizing, man, I did exactly the counsel.
I took the counsel.
I practiced the counsel, whatever, did the handlebar, and it did not play out like I thought.
Well, that's hope deferred, and the Bible says hope deferred will make the heart sick.
