I Review a Real Kenya Safari Quote: What I'd Change

Day one, arrive Nairobi after your international flight.

Stay at a Nairobi hotel.

That's fine.

That's what I would do as well.

That's a very sensible first night.

You know, relax after a long journey.

Just take it easy because you're going to have an early start the next day when your safari begins.

Day two.

After breakfast, leave by road to the Masai Mara.

3.5 hours.

Okay, this sets off the first alarm bell in my head.

First of all, going from Nairobi to the Masai Mara in 3.5 hours, that's cutting it fine.

I'm not quite sure how you're going to do that, because the traffic just getting out of Nairobi is quite tough, and it's a long journey, and it's a bad road.

Some of it is really rough.

Now to say it's going to take 3.5 hours, that is optimistic to the extreme.

So that's most of your first safari day gone.

By the time you get there, you're going to be tired, you're going to be hungry, it's going to be time for lunch, probably quite a late lunch by the time you're there.

And you will then have maybe a little siesta time before getting in one game drive in the afternoon slash evening, maybe starting at 4pm.

So you get your sundowners, you go back to the camp and you have dinner and you go to bed.

And you've got an even earlier start the next day because...

According to this itinerary, you're going to spend your only full day in the Masai Mara starting with a hot air balloon ride.

Now, you have to get up extremely early for the hot air balloon ride, so you're going to be on your...

I mean, just think about this, right? This is your only day in the Masai Mara.

You've got to get up at 4.30, and you're going to be probably a bit irritated, irritable.

This is not the setup for a relaxing start to your safari.
