The European steel industry is facing an existential crisis: energy prices are high, demand from key sectors is weak, and cheap imports are affecting competitiveness. How can decarbonisation go ahead…
But I think it's important to note also for our listeners that it is a long process.
Also, decarbonization of the steel industry, all these processes we have to go through.
It's not done by 2030 as we dreamt at the beginning when we started even this podcast.
I mean, it's nothing where you just push the button and then everything's fine.
It's so highly engineered at the point which is absolutely underestimated in the public, in my opinion, and also in politics, because nobody can imagine that this is...
And the processes that we have, they're just... highly intense and you have to be behind it every day and every day something changes something you didn't have in mind yesterday and so you have to deal with it and in the end there's a product That looks simple, but it has so much technology in it, which is actually rocket science.
And so this is what makes it so complex and what makes this transition period so complex.
I'm so happy you say that because people really underestimate how exciting the steel industry is.
And also young people, which I'm like always going on about getting young people into the industry, because there is so much going on and there's so much to learn.
And we have lots of very, very good young people here, very motivated and they want to shape this future.
And lots of them come because they know that we're going into a period of sustainability.
