Let's start with something we all learnt at school but probably haven't thought about since.

It doesn't matter whether we're talking about steel, aluminium, timber or plastic.

Now we're not talking about inches here, the movement is usually measured within millimetres, but when you're dealing with a product that's designed with very fine tolerances, even a couple of millimetres can completely change how something feels when it operates.

If you've got a south-facing garage with a dark coloured door, the surface temperature can become significantly hotter than the outside air temperature.

Even on a day that's 30 degrees outside, the metal itself can become much hotter after hours in direct sunlight.

The heat transfers throughout the door, into the guides, into the frame, and even into some of the hardware.

Suddenly, everything is just that little bit tighter than when it was on a cool spring morning.
