This message is the seventh in our series through the letter of 1 John, titled Family Resemblance, the Evidence of New Life.

It is from 1 John chapter 3, verses 11 to 24.

We get to the end of chapter 3 this week.

But John confronts us with a searching, a deep, a profound question.

What does a heart transformed by Jesus actually look like? And he takes us from Cain, who reveals the old heart marked by hatred and self-preservation, to Jesus Christ, who reveals the new heart, which is marked by sacrificial love.

But John doesn't leave us under the weight of our failures.

He leads us to one of the most comforting promises.

If our hearts condemn us, God is greater than our hearts.

My prayer is that this message would not only challenge you to love as Jesus has loved you, but also strengthen your confidence in the gospel.

in your hope, and remind you that your assurance rests not in your perfect love for God, but in his perfect love for you.
