The Parable of the Weeds. In this week’s podcast Jesus explains the kingdom of heaven with a parable about weeds (the people of the evil one or the devil) and wheat (the people of Jesus). The parable is about the wheat and the weeds growing up together but then are separated at harvest time (judgment time at “the end of the age”). The wheat are saved and shine like the sun in God’s kingdom, but the weeds are gathered up and burned in fire (hell) where there will be great sadness and bitterness. Jesus’ parable is a promise and a harsh warning. Jesus says “He who has ears, let him hear. We should listen to Jesus’ words with an open heart and receive his message and believe. We are being warned not to be deceived by the devil. I hope this weekly podcast is helpful for you. The purpose of the podcast is to help English second language learners improve their English and learn about the bible at the same time. The podcast follows a three year church calendar of bible readings used by many churches (both Protestant and Catholic) around the world. Take care and God bless you! David

Reading the Parable of the Weeds (Verses 24–30)1:21 – 5:19

1:21

Okay, so let's get started then.

1:24

Verse 24.

1:26

Okay.

1:28

Jesus told them another parable.

1:31

The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed great seed in his field.

1:40

But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and went away.

1:51

When the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the weeds also appeared.

2:00

Okay, so Jesus is comparing the kingdom of heaven to wheat and weeds.

2:08

And I'm not going to explain everything because Jesus explains it later.

2:14

But here we have everyone sleeping.

2:18

The enemy comes and sows weeds.

2:23

He puts down the seeds.

2:25

The enemy plants the seeds for weeds with the wheat.

2:32

Someone's coming into his field, his land, and secretly planting weeds.

2:43

When this wheat sprouted, when the wheat came out and was growing, the weeds also appeared.

2:52

Okay.

2:58

So let's go on to the next reading.

3:00

Verse 27.

3:03

The owner's servants came to him and said, Sir, Didn't you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from? Okay, so they didn't know that the weeds were planted, and they're asking the owner of the field, the servants, the people who work for the owner, are asking him, where did these weeds come from? And the answer, verse 28, an enemy did this, he replied.

3:38

The servants asked him, do you want us to go and pull them up? Should we, you know, pull up the weeds, get rid of the weeds? Verse 29.

3:52

No, he answered, because while you are pulling the weeds, you may uproot the wheat with them.

4:01

So he says no, because you might take out, uproot.

4:06

Uproot is, you know, take them out by the roots.

4:08

You might uproot the good wheat at the same time.

4:13

So no. Verse 30.
