An interview with Kiriopai, the creator of the word Takiwatanga by Mayo Hatawa.
Te Reo Hāpai is a project dedicated to making new Te Reo words in the mental health, addiction and disability sectors.
It means in my, his, her, their own space and time.
Creation of the kupu came about by speaking to autistic people and their whānau, as well as through conversations with clinicians and practitioners.
I was lucky enough to catch up with Kiri himself to learn about the process of creating new words.
