What happens when someone loses a noticeable amount of weight on a GLP-1…and doesn’t tell you they’re taking one? Do they owe you that information? Absolutely not. But is it really that simple? I…
But I think this is a really important topic of conversation because GLP-1s are so omnipresent and because we are seeing so many people around us losing weight.
And I think our instant reaction now is we see someone who has lost weight and we instantly think, oh, they're on a GLP-1.
And it's not even so much – I was going to say it's not so much that it matters, right? Because you guys obviously know that I am like a huge supporter of GLP-1s for the right reasons and with the right support.
I think what gets messy around this, and I think a lot of people on GLP-1s can relate to this, is that you see someone who's lost a bunch of weight, and maybe there's someone that you know, and so you're in a position where you can have a conversation with them about it, or maybe there's someone you don't know, and you still make a comment about what they look like, separate conversation.
And they say to you, or you ask them what they're doing, or they volunteer information, and they're like, yeah, I really changed my eating, I've been exercising, all the usual stuff.
And then what happens is you hear them say that and you think to yourself, God damn, I keep doing that.
Why isn't it working for me? Why is it working for them? What is wrong with me? What am I doing wrong? I'm not trying hard enough.
And so what happens is it perpetuates all of the issues around diet culture and our, speaking of this episode of Paula, our obsession with being thin and feeling like if we can just stick to the plan, then we can attain that body or we can attain that goal.
When the reality is that diet that you think they're doing is the same thing you've already done a million times and you can't stick to it because it's too restrictive.
It's totally mismatched with your life and your preferences and the way that your body actually exists in this world.
And so if you are listening and you're on a GLP-1 diet, Obviously, we're not having a two-way conversation here.
