In a field as emotionally charged as human-animal relations, the line between research and advocacy is never simple.

Scientists study the psychology of eating animals, advocates try to change it, and increasingly those two groups overlap.

How do we maintain credibility? What counts as bias? Who gets to be seen as objective? And how do we build trust in a world where information itself feels polluted? This is episode four of our FAIR mini-series, and today we're looking at the tension and the opportunity that emerges when science and advocacy meet.

You'll hear from four of the researchers and advocates who spoke at the FAIR conference and who are navigating that boundary every day.

We'll ask Jarrett Piazza, one of the co-founders of the FAIR Society, about the goals for the organization, and Sue O'Neill about how research and advocacy can work together.

This episode is less about animals directly and more about the ecosystem of ideas that shape how we talk about them and how we move the field forward.

I'm Marika Bell, anthrozoologist, CPDT dog trainer, and like you, an animal myself.
The deal is everything.

Thank you for joining me in this special mini-series covering the Animal Advocacy Conference and for asking the question, what's the deal with animals? Let's begin with the question at the heart of this tension.
