Send us Fan Mail This episode came from a post I saw about a little girl who was so proud of herself for a huge accomplishment, but wasn't sure if…
Um, and this all came because I saw someone post on social media about their daughter who had accomplished this really awesome thing, and she had asked her mom, "Is it okay to be proud of this?" Or, like, "Should I be proud of this?" Or something like that.
And her mom was like, "Absolutely.
Yes, you should be very proud that, you know, you accomplished XYZ.
You're so young, and you're already doing things that some of the older kids are just now doing, and they've got more experience." And it reminded me of how everybody could use that reminder, that it's okay to be proud of yourself.
I think to be proud of yourself can sometimes feel like you're being conceited, but it's not the same at all.
So again, you can and should be proud of yourself for your accomplishments or for a decision you made that was tough, for changing a habit you've been wanting to change, for making it through a hard day, like being resilient, maybe for saying something when you wanted to stay quiet, or vice versa.
Whatever you feel proud of, that's great, and I hope you will share it with someone.
I'm trying to share a little bit more of that on my social media.
You know, just, like, posting things I'm proud of, and sometimes it's even uncomfortable for me, you know, to not feel like I'm trying to look better than other people because it's not at all what I'm doing.
But I do it in hopes to make it easier for myself, but also in hopes others will see it and feel like they can then share more about what they're proud of.
Because maybe seeing someone else do it will make them feel more comfortable sharing as well.
We have all done hard things.
We've overcome a lot.
We make decisions every day, and we're proud of a lot of the stuff that we do, and I feel like people need to hear more about it.
I would love to hear more about things that people are proud of.
And if more of us shared, maybe a six-year-old wouldn't be questioning whether she's allowed to be proud of something she accomplished that took a lot of work on her part.
