**Are we all villains in someone else’s story? Join Grace, Gina, and John for an honest conversation about misunderstandings, hidden motives, and the different sides of a story. Through relatable…
okay so this is a story about a daughter who has abandoned her mother an elderly mother tells everyone her daughter has not called or visited her in three years she's devastated her friends say the daughter is selfish and heartless the mother raised her sacrificed for her and now she's abandoned is the daughter wrong for walking away from her aging mother What comes to mind first, Gina? What do you think of that story? If someone told you that, someone close to you told you that story?
I'd have to understand the circumstances before I can even express my opinion.
Mm-hmm, mm-hmm.
But if you had a close, close friend and they started to tell you this story?
No, I would feel bad.
I would obviously show them compassion because your first reaction is, you know, you feel bad for them because they're hurting and you want to support them.
Mm-hmm, mm-hmm.
Would you feel the same, John?
So I just flashback to when I was in school and there was an elderly patient that had no visitors and I felt horrible.
And I remember my clinical instructor saying, you never know somebody's past, right? So that brings us to this three sides to every story, right? Huzz, huzz, and the truth, right? So everyone has a story, and we don't know, like Gina said, we don't have the whole story.
Yeah, absolutely, absolutely.
So what if we do know the daughter's story? What if we do know the daughter's story? So the daughter...
spent her childhood being emotionally mistreated and controlled.
As an adult, she tried repeatedly to repair this relationship, but her mother continued the same behavior and refused accountability.
So after years of trying, the daughter finally chose distance.
Does being someone's parent automatically entitle you to a relationship?
No.
Sadly, no.
Yeah.
And can the mother sincerely feel abandoned at the same time while her daughter sincerely feels like she escaped the situation?
Hmm.
So can people have that same feeling with two different scenarios? Go ahead, Gina.
Yeah.
And those are two real feelings because the mother's looking at it through her lens.
Mm hmm.
