This question, man, I will tell you, I've taken laps around this question and it's this.

What am I gaining that isn't worth what I'm losing? What am I gaining that isn't worth what I'm losing? This question matters.

The problem is that many of us, we focus so exclusively on what we're gaining, but we start ignoring what we're sacrificing.

Because isn't it true that every yes is also in some way, shape or form a no? Isn't it true that every opportunity does come with a cost? Every commitment consumes a portion of our very limited time, our limited energy and our attention.

The purpose of this first question is to help us really evaluate whether the exchange that we're making is worth the payoff.

Because some gains, man, they look impressive on the paper, on the whiteboard, but they leave us bankrupt in areas that matter most.

I've met people who gained the big title, the big promotion, but they lost connection with their family.

I've met people who got all the recognition and social media viral posts, but they lose their health.
