The Monthly Wrap: July + August

So obviously Paddington got sick and that took a massive hit in terms of my finances.

I definitely just threw any money that I could at the situation.

I took him to see a specialist.

I took him to see the original vet.

We'd actually been to an emergency vet the day before the main vet visit because we thought that he had ingested something and that's why he wasn't well.

How I wish that had been the case and maybe it would have been something acute that we could have dealt with rather than something as severe as cancer.

but anyway so um you know we'll get to it all in the receipts section where I go through my transactions but I did spend almost five thousand dollars in three or four days uh trying well actually longer I suppose because that included all of the uh cremation and everything that I eventually had um but yeah it was a very expensive week not ideal the week before having a baby um but that is what emergency funds and things are for I suppose but yeah I'll break down that a little bit later when I do the receipts section but that was a big hitter I suppose the second thing obviously I had the baby I had Gigi which you know brought with it some costs but they were expected so I paid obviously my hospital insurance which was $750 sorry my insurance excess for the hospital and which was $750.

Everything else was included.

We did the hospital that I gave birth at has like a partnership with a hotel and you do the transition to homestay after you've done the hospital stay if you want to.

Some people don't do it.

It's kind of not convenient if you have other kids at home, but we did it.

It was actually really good for us because, you know, it gave us more time away from home.

I think I was actually the happiest when I was in the hospital in the aware of the grief i could kind of bury it a bit and then it all kind of hit us when we got home but that was really good the hotel stay was all included it used to be quite different and they used to be midwives and lactation consultants as part of the hospital stay for the transition to home they took all of that away in covid and they never brought it back as as i'm told so it really is just a hotel stay so for some people they just don't want that they just want to kind of get into the rhythm and go home um we personally loved it You know me, I love a hotel.

We thought it was great.

So I would recommend if you're going through the private system in Australia and your hospital offers that.

I know that some of them, I think maybe the Grand Hyatt that is the transition to homestay from Francis Payne.

i want to say actually i'm not sure about that but the hotels that send you to sorry the hospitals that send you to grand hire i think maybe have more services i'm not sure if there are other hotel partnerships um but our hospital we went to hotel chadston which is amazing because you have chadston right there so you can just run out and get anything that you need but yeah that was amazing so that was all for the 750 so my five night stay in hospital um and then my three sorry two nights stay at the hotel and we actually added on an extra night at the So we were out the house for nearly over a week in total, which was great.

Having the baby, I ended up having the baby early.

So I wasn't originally due to, my due date was the 27th.

And then we thought that I might have her a few days earlier than that.

And I ended up having her a few days earlier than that with pretty much no warning because...

I don't know if, I still kind of think that the grief brought all of this on, but you'll never really know.

Or just the, I guess the trauma of everything that happened in the week that Paddington got sick and passed away.

But I had had like normal checks, normal checks.

Aside from my gestational diabetes, everything was looking okay.
