I'm caregiving, I'm still working full time, I've got a career", or maybe we're in retirement, we're just traveling a lot, we got a lot of things going on, but we still wanna stay healthy.
So how are you helping people with these five foundations of healthy living, especially over 40?
I will get into these and, you know, this is a deep discussion so we'll kinda hit the highlights of these different foundations.
As I've gotten deep into my health journey, I believe these are the things we need to focus on in this exact order to achieve and maintain lifelong health.
And right now in the current environment of the health and fitness landscape, there's so much noise and different influencers and tips and tactics, and a lot of people are just focusing on the wrong stuff.
And sleep is so important because we under-appreciate it in Western busy culture where we try to hard charge all the time, we drink a lot of coffee to stay up and get going.
Sleep is our body's chance to balance our anabolic and catabolic hormones, the hormones that build up our tissues and our muscles and our bones, and then the tissues that...
Sleep is one of the master regulators of melatonin, and this is something a lot of people know as being a supplement, but it's actually one of the biggest anti-aging molecules that we know of.
It acts in the brain, it probably has action secondarily through the immune system on bones and on osteoblasts and osteoclasts, and it creates a hormonal environment of success.
People who are sleep deprived or under-recovered and aren't optimizing sleep that then go out and try to do high intensity exercise, who go out and try to do specific kind of diets, you're working uphill, and eventually it's gonna totally crash and burn because when the body is not... and it's in a sympathetic stressed state due to under-recovery, not enough sleep priority, the whole hormonal system is hard for us to lose weight.
One was on a sleep deprived protocol, which they said was under six hours in the study, and another group was sleeping the seven and a half to eight.
They put them on the same diet, same exercise routine, and we can all kinda guess what happened.
The weight that they lost was mostly through muscle tissue and not from fat because they had all this dysregulated hormone stuff.
So it's someplace to really zone in on, and even if you're sleeping decent, like, there's ways to improve that.
And we won't do a full episode here on sleep, but I would say, like, getting your sleep environment rock solid, like darker bedroom.
