Longtime friend Bob Murphy, goes by Piggy, remembers it well.
The memories are a little fuzzy, but Bob recalls he was in the lead car, a Dodge Dart with Fidrich, while a couple more buddies were in a Volvo behind them.
After dropping off Fidrich, his buddies were content just to hang out at nearby Pompano Beach.

And I think he got there, he was two earlier, and they weren't going to let him in.
Folklore has it that Fidrich reported early and pitched a tent for a couple of days.
Or maybe he rented a hotel.
Either way, the kid was excited to be at training camp.
