What to Wear and Watch This Halloween: Trends and Inspiration Trending Halloween Costumes Buddy the Unicorn Nee Doh Dolly Parton Ella Langley Agememnon from The Oddyseey Dumpling Disco Sooby and Shaggy New Movie "Buddy" To Watch For Halloween Buddy the Unicorn is currently dominating pop culture because of his breakout role in the 2026 hit horror-comedy film Buddy. The movie has turned into a massive independent box office success and cultural phenomenon. According to Wikipedia, Buddy is a bright orange, anthropomorphic unicorn voiced by Keegan-Michael Key. The film precisely spoofs cheerful, PBS-style 1990s children's television programs like *Barney & Friends*. The character has gone viral because the movie takes that comforting childhood aesthetic and slowly morphs it into a dark, psychological slasher where Buddy plays a tyrannical, axe-wielding host who refuses to tolerate kids breaking character or disrupting his perfect routine. Could New City Rules Change a Beloved Raleigh Halloween Tradition? Raleigh homeowner faces new permit requirements for popular Halloween display A popular Halloween display in Raleigh, North Carolina, could face changes this year as the city introduces new permit requirements. Homeowner Jesse Jones has decorated his house in the Oakwood neighborhood for Halloween for 15 years. The display draws thousands of visitors, including nearly 6,000 trick-or-treaters last year. The city already closes five streets around the home. Now, officials are requiring Jones to obtain a special-event permit, citing safety concerns. Jones says the display is simply neighborhood trick-or-treating, not an organized event. He already hires off-duty police officers for security, but says the new requirements could push his costs above six thousand dollars. He says his biggest frustration isn't the expense. It's the added bureaucracy and paperwork. Some visitors worry the new rules could threaten a neighborhood tradition that brings families together. Raleigh City Council member Corey Branch says city officials are working with Jones to find a solution that keeps the celebration safe. Jones says talks with the city are going well, and discussions will continue as both sides work to keep the Halloween tradition alive. Rent Outdoor Gear Instead of Buying It for Your Next Adventure Hunt without the hefty price tag: Boise company makes outdoor gear more affordable Getting ready for a hunting trip or a camping adventure can be expensive. From bows and backpacks to tents and cold-weather clothing, the cost of equipment can add up quickly. A Boise company is offering another option: rent the gear instead of buying it. Rent Outdoor Gear launched in 2019. Earlier this year, the company opened an archery shop and retail store at Vista Village in Boise. Owner and chief executive officer Darin Cooper got the idea after drawing a bighorn sheep hunting tag in 2017. Cooper wanted to buy a high-quality spotting scope for the once-in-a-lifetime hunt. But the price was nearly seven thousand dollars. He searched for a way to rent one, but couldn't find a company that offered the option. That experience led Cooper to start a business renting premium outdoor equipment at more affordable rates. Today, Rent Outdoor Gear offers a wide range of equipment for hunters and outdoor enthusiasts. That includes binoculars, spotting scopes, rangefinders, and thermal optics, along with tents, sleeping bags, backpacks, and rain gear. The company also rents bows, arrows, and other archery accessories. Cooper says renting is a straightforward process. Customers choose the equipment they need, select when they want it delivered or picked up, and arrange to return it after their trip. He compares the process to booking a stay through Airbnb. And if customers decide they want to keep something, the company offers what it calls the Keeper Program. Renters can apply the full cost of up to seven days of rental fees toward the purchase of the equipment. For people who are new to hunting or camping — or those who need specialized gear for just one trip — the option offers a way to try quality equipment without paying the full purchase price upfront.
