Since the U.S. put 50% tariffs on Canadian goods in what the Wall Street Journal has called the dumbest trade war in history, Canada has answered dollar for dollar, while neither Washington nor Ottawa seem to have a map out of this stress.
As for the main issue, dairy, once all the mass shakes out, tariffs can push past 200%.

Now America actually runs a surplus selling dairy northward because of where the real gap is, oil.
Oil.
Midwest refineries need that heavy Alberta crude because there's no readily available substitute.
The co-director of New York Law School's Center for International Law, Barry Appleton, explained, it's only the oil they can use.
I'm guessing that somebody named Barry Appleton sounds like that.
They're not set up for it.
It would take years and billions of dollars to shift over.
