So I came to this home group and my sponsor was like, you should be a greeter.

And I was like, I instantly see the connection.

I'm in a psych ward, I'm in a homeless shelter, I can't stop drinking, I love drugs, I'll only say that once.

I got every outside issue known to man except for slavery.

Greeting, that'll do it, yeah.

I did not know how to be a greeter.

I had to be taught how to be a greeter, the former captain of industry.

I'm out there, and this guy Rich, he was the head greeter.

He goes, Ed, come over here.

Ed goes, what do you see here? And I knew right away it was one of those sponsor questions.

I was like, uh, this is a trick question.

I go, I don't know, I see people walking into my home group.

He goes, I see people walking into my home group past greeters and no one's greeting them.

You're here to do service.

You're not here to talk to the person next to you and wait for them to stop talking so you could start talking again about you.

No. That's what I was doing.

So then, I became the greeter.

If you walked through that door, you were getting greeted whether you liked it or not.

And I especially liked if you didn't like it.

Aha! And this girl next to me, she goes, what do you think, is this some competition? Like, is this ego? And I was like, that word ego got my attention.

Like, hmm, that's one of those words.

I went back to my sponsor, I go, so what's up with that? He goes, over enthusiasm and service? No such thing.

Turned the greet.

And there were quite a few times where I was with him, I just felt like crying.

And he said, turn the greet.
