We ask whether the situation is really bullying or whether two adults simply don't get along.

Adults can dislike one another, challenge decisions, or maybe have completely different personalities without either person becoming a bully.

Conflict usually involves people who have some ability to speak, negotiate, or respond.

Bullying involves power being used repeatedly to intimidate, maybe isolate or humiliate, or maybe even control another person.

It can come from social influence, access to information, or the ability to turn a group against one person.

Now, relational aggression works particularly well in adult settings because it leaves very little visible evidence.

There may be no shoving in the hallway, but instead someone is left off of an important email, excluded from a meeting, or quietly described as difficult.
