So I would just love to hear your thoughts on that and how the kind of lack of understanding of consent might feed in to this.

now I feel like for me it's very clear what consent is but I'm also very mindful of the work that I do so it will be clear for me right but it should be clear to us all but consent is an enthusiastic yes both parties or multiple parties consent they want to do this whatever this is and they feel safe to do so they also feel safe if they say no right they can choose the choice in here is about having choice safe choice

Yeah, sometimes this conversation is easy to have as well when we talk about what isn't consent because I think that's where people get stuck.

A person who is sleeping cannot give consent.

They cannot give consent whether they've had sex with you half an hour ago Two days ago, they haven't consented.

They can't consent while they're asleep.

Someone who's been drugged can't consent.

If they're unconscious, they can't consent to any kind of sexual activity.

A drunk person can't.

Can't consent.

But also, you know, A young person can't consent, but children can't consent.

Somebody who has a severe learning disability cannot consent to sex.

And even within relationships, if you are married to somebody or in a committed relationship or have previously had sex with somebody, it doesn't mean that every time consent is guaranteed.

People can change their mind.

100%.

Someone can... give consent for one form of sexual activity and change their mind about something else.

And that's okay.

They may have said yes before, but saying no now, absolutely.

And it's about checking at every time that we're both wanting to do this.

And actually there are no consequences if this person says no, because there's also that thing around, you know, coercion.

Coercion is not consent.
