So many of us want to reject diet culture.

We want to accept our bodies.

We don't want to go back to the making ourselves thin well.

But the idea of weight gain is awful for us.

And it makes us feel upset inside.

And so we feel stuck not really knowing what to do.

That can sometimes be because we don't have the actual skills to deal with what's happening in our nervous system.

Because our nervous system has spent years trying to be thinner.

And our bodies have not caught up with what our brains want.

Which means we may have intellectually rejected diet culture.

We know we want to accept ourselves.

And we can want to accept ourselves intellectually until the cows come home.

but we won't get out from under that distress that we feel about our bodies if we cannot regulate the stress we have internalized about our weight and the way we eat over all the years we've been alive and that we've been at this kind of trying to make ourselves thinner project project Let's start by saying nervous system regulation is a very, very teachable skill.

But we are not born with it.

It is not something you naturally have or don't naturally have.

And most midlife women that have been born in a patriarchal society, which is pretty much anyone who is listening to this podcast...

it is almost guaranteed that you have not been taught it.

So in today's episode, I am going to lay out the exact things that a good toolkit for nervous system regulation as it relates to food and stress will include and why those things are included in it.
