Jun 3, 2026 · 20 min · 9 segments
You know what you're supposed to do. Protein. Sleep. Movement. Stress. Fun. Relationships. And yet — underneath all of that knowledge — there is a persistent, grinding feeling that you are behind…

Here's a kind of a typical list that many women have either written down or kind of have in their heads.

I'm going to eat 120 grams of protein today.

I'm going to lift heavy weights.

I'm going to walk with friends.

I'm going to fiber max.

I'm going to get eight hours of sleep.

I'm going to achieve my work goals.

I'm going to be a present, gentle parent.

I'm going to connect with my partner.

I'm not going to eat emotionally.

I'm going to avoid sugar and ultra processed foods.

I'm going to keep my nervous system regulated.

I'm going to love my body.

And women, for the most part, when we have these kind of lists, we want to do it all every day and we want to do it perfectly.

Now, nothing on that list that I just read out is inherently wrong, but here's what I notice when I work with women, and it's something I wonder if you deal with as well, because I certainly deal with it as well as the women I work with.

It's not the list.

It's not anything on the list, even though I've said that there's nothing on that list is inherently wrong.

But if it's not the list, what is it? And I think it's our relationship with the list, the approach we have with those things we're trying to do for our health and well-being, and why underneath it all, we have the approach that we have.

So as I said before, for many of us, that list comes with this underlying sense of overwhelm, a sense of never arriving where we want to be, of always being slightly behind.
